Before your headshot or corporate photography session, Carly will engage in a consultation to understand your vision for the shoot. This includes discussing preferences for location or backdrop, as well as the option to change outfits for a versatile range of images that align with your desired aesthetic.
Carly, with her expertise, can offer recommendations on optimal locations, ideal times of the day to capture the best lighting, and assist with outfit selection. Each headshot session spans approximately 30-45 minutes, during which Carly will provide guidance and direction to ensure you are happy with the results.
After the session, you will gain exclusive access to a private online gallery where you can review and choose your preferred images. The package includes three high-resolution JPEG files, meticulously edited to meet professional standards.

Posted onTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I couldn't recommend Carly from Black Cat highly enough, she has an incredibly talented eye for design. She carefully considers what you want to say to the world via your website, and delivers it perfectly. Such a pleasure to work with and a genuinely lovely person too.Posted onTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It is a word of mouth from my friend to engage Carly to design our business website. We gave her a briefing on our concept and at that time we didn't really know what we actual want 🤦🏼. Luckily Carly can read our mind and the website she designed was what we imagine. After a few back and forth with slight changes, our website is officially live. Very very happy with Carly creativity. She is really good at what she is doing. 💯 % will recommend her to anyone who is looking to get Website done.Posted onTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Read the FAQ on all things headshot photoshoots
It depends! Traditionally I would have said it’s best to stick with neutral colours & tones that will compliment your skin tone. Busy patterns and super bright colours can be distracting – but if you are in a business or role that is reflective of being bright and colourful, then you do you and wear those colours!
Again, this is dependent on a couple of factors: the look and feel you are going for, your role and how you want the photos to represent you (and your brand). I specialise in outdoor photography, focussing on natural backgrounds that will make your photos stand out from plain white backdrop images (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). A lot of my clients want their clients to show where they work (ie a familiar location) or the backdrop to be relaxed and calming.
I like to have a preliminary chat for 10-15 minutes about the shoot, location ideas, styling and use of photos. The photoshoot itself is typically around 30-45 minutes. I encourage people to mix up their outfits, changing can add a bit more time.
Great question – this helps me for a couple of reasons. Knowing you are going to use the shots only for your LinkedIn profile vs a website will help determine how I shoot. For example I will do more landscape shots for website use as banners or blog images. It could also help determine about the type of backdrop we need to go for. For example, keeping it nice and simple with less distraction for an Industrial role on your Linked In profile. Location is important for some clients as they are representing a particular area in their political career so they need photos taken in that area.
It also helps to know where you are going to use them so I can provide you with the correct resolution size.
I hear you! Feel a bit like a reindeer in headlights?! You are not alone. But don’t worry, I will ease you into the photoshoot and constantly provide you with something to smile about, whilst keeping you moving in different but subtle body language changes. We will try a lot of different arm positions, utilise the hands in different ways. Everybody moves, sits and stands in different ways. Throughout the photoshoot I will give you encouragement when I see how a certain look makes you look natural and relaxed (everybody has a sweet spot!). I will also show you shots as we go through the shoot so you have the chance to see how you look. We are our own worst critic and I encourage people to look at how they want to feel and focus on that rather than how they look. What image are you wanting to portray – confident, approachable, relaxed? In 45 minutes we capture a lot of shots and angles that I am confident I can get 3 great shots of you!
Generally I will have your headshot photos done within 48-72 hours (depending on how busy I am). Once they are edited I put them up on an online gallery for you to view and download your favourites.
Not heavily. I prefer natural photos of people, not airbrushed over edited ones. I will crop, straighten, remove unwanted zits or blemishes (at the clients request), lighten (or darken over exposed pics) and remove distracting unavoidable objects from the background if required. Generally I work on nailing the editing in-camera so you get a true representation of the photos as we work on the day.
Generally not often. Only if requested. Occasionally I will try a black and white filter on a clients headshot (and will put that in their gallery) but I am personally drawn to colour and the natural style of shot. There is a place for black and white photos (especially weddings and family shoots) but by providing clients with colour they could if they really wanted, change it themselves in Canva.
I’ll put my Professional Photographer hat on now (because that’s what I do!) and give you some food for thought… – Selfie shots aren’t the best look for a professional headshot (ask any CEO and I’m sure they will agree!); having your friend or mum take the shot is great but do they a) know good angles to capture you, b) understand the best light to work in & c) discuss the way you want to be portrayed in your images. Quality – the end result of a mobile photo is limited in its quality. All mobile photos are set to jpeg which results in a reduced quality image and this cannot compare to some of the beautiful high quality lenses I use to capture my clients.
You bet! Headshot photography is tax deductible. I have an ABN so will give you a Tax Invoice after you have paid and had the photoshoot to claim on your next financial years tax.
